Book Study
Sundays at 2:00 PM
On Sunday afternoons, we are gathering via Zoom to discuss Jesse Zink's book,
Faithful,Creative, Hopeful: Fifteen Theses for Christians in a Crisis-Shaped World.
In this book, Jesse Zink demonstrates the importance of the Christian gospel and its witness to the flourishing of human societies. Zink offers 15 theses—echoing those of the church reformers—that together offer a vision for a renewed faith and a renewed church in this crisis-shaped world. From the future of the Eucharist to the nature of Christian hope, from the challenges of neoliberal capitalism to the joys of local community, Zink skillfully weaves together theology,Scripture, liturgy, congregational ministry, and on-the-ground experience of church in a variety of contexts to provoke, motivate, and challenge Christians to renew their ministry and live our mission in a changing world.
Blue Christmas Service
Thursday, December 18
7:00 pm
For someone who has lost a loved one, the holidays can be especially difficult. St. John'sobserves a solemn service for those grieving. This observance provides a space for reflection and acknowledgment of grief during a time typically associated with joy and celebration.
The service has traditionally been held on (or about) the longest night of the year. We try to have it on the Wednesday or Thursday of that week.
Join us for this quiet time of remembrance to honor your loved one.
Christmas Eve Service
Wednesday, December 24
Our 'late' Christmas Eve Eucharist will be on Christmas Eve at 7:00 pm. In addition to singing some favorite Christmas hymns, we will also hear solos by Joan Hall and Jay Casl, and Harp by Joan Hall.
Enjoy some Christmas goodies after the service.

Yearly Events
Easter Egg Hunt
April 19, 2025, 11:00 am
Each year on Holy Saturday, the Saturday before Easter Sunday, we invite children of all ages from our surrounding community
to come meet the Easter Bunny, play games, enjoy a wonderful buffet lunch, and help us find thousands of colored eggs stuffed with candy that suddenly appear in the field behind the church. A fun-filled family event that celebrates the joy and promise of new life.
Family Camp
July 27-August 2, 2025
Since 1978, the purpose of St. John's Family Camp has been to strengthen the friendships of our church community, surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Family Camp is held along the Bear River, at the Donner Mine, in the area of Emigrant Gap. Campers can come for any amount of time; for one day, several days, or the whole week.
Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, October 5, 2025
On the first Sunday of October (the feast of St. Francis) all are invited to bring their beloved animal companions (or pictures of your companions if they want to sleep in) to our services (held outdoors) for a special blessing. Cats, Dogs, Hamsters, Rabbits, Gerbils, Spiders, Snakes, Ponies, Chickens, Roosters, all of God’s beloved creatures are welcomed and honored.
Trunk or Treat
Thursday, October 30, 2025
6:00pm-8:00pm
Each year a day or two before Halloween, St. John’s provides a fun and safe place for families to come and “Trick or Treat.” We bring our cars to the parking lot, put on our costumes, and open our decorated trunks that are filled with all kinds of safe pre-packaged candy. We also throw in a bounce house and other games. We'll have a pet costume contest: Cutest, Scariest, Most Creative. Come join us for a “Boo-tiful” evening as we enjoy the very creative ways in which people choose to celebrate Halloween.
