Book Study
Sundays at 2:00 PM
Our new Book Study begins next Sunday, October 18, at 2:00 pm via Zoom. The book we will be reading is: The Secret Life of Christians by Jacob Coyne.
Imagine a life securely resting in God, centered on him. Imagine a life where your longings and desires are met by the Eternal One.
Too many people are publicly busy but privately starving. The Secret Life of Christians is a call back to the hidden place—where real transformation happens and the fulfillment of our spiritual hunger that only a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ can bring. This book exposes the danger of performing faith while neglecting intimacy with Jesus. Through biblical truth, stories of true revival, and ancient pathways of prayer, the book guides readers into a deep, daily encounter with God that no platform or performance can replace.
Jacob Coyne knows this struggle personally. He’s built an audience of over 2.6million followers, but all that attention wasn’t enough to satisfy his soul. He’s learned that the goal isn’t for us to receive more blessings–it’s to receive Jesus. Friendship with God and authentic spiritual growth are found in the secret place.
Diocesan Convention Hub
Saturday, October 24

This year's Diocesan Convention will be held via Zoom. St. John's will host a hub where delegates can gather to participate. Anyone is welcome to join and listen in to the procedings.
The event begins at 9:00 am and will continue for the rest of the day.
Trunk or Treat
Saturday, October 30
6 - 8 pm
All are welcome to decorate the trunk of your car or the back of your pickup truck, wear a costume if you like, and hand out candy to the hundreds of little goblins, princesses, and marvel action figures who will come to our East parking lot the night before Halloween. The shopping center across the street is having a similar event, so we expect a lot of kids!
Donations are being accepted of bags of individually wrapped candies; just bring them to Fr. Cliff's office.
This is one of the larger events we hold for the community. Come join the fun!
Surviving the Holidays

When you’re grieving the death of a family member or friend, you may dread the holiday season. Thoughts of social gatherings, family traditions, and obligations leave you anxious and overwhelmed. Your sadness can seem unbearable. You may wish you could skip these next two months and go straight to the routine of the next year—but you can’t. What can you do to lessen your stress and loneliness?
A GriefShare Surviving the Holidays seminar, held at St. John’s Episcopal Church from 10:00 am to noon, offers practical, actionable strategies for making it through the holiday season. At this two-hour seminar, you’ll view a video featuring advice from people in grief who’ve faced the holidays after their loss. You’ll hear insights from respected Christian counselors, pastors, and psychologists. You’ll receive a Holiday Survival Guide with practical strategies, encouraging words, helpful exercises, Q/As, and journaling ideas for daily survival through the holiday season.
At GriefShare Surviving the Holidays, you’ll meet with other grieving people who have an understanding of what you’re going through. They won’t judge you or force you to share, but will accept you where you are and will offer comfort and support. “When I went to GriefShare,” said Marion, “I realized there are different ways to grieve.”
Your holiday season won’t be easy; your emotions may ambush you and suck you under at times. But you can choose to walk through this season in a way that honors your loved one and puts you on the path of health and healing.

Easter Egg Hunt
April 4, 2026, 11:00 am
Each year on Holy Saturday, the Saturday before Easter Sunday, we invite children of all ages from our surrounding community
to come meet the Easter Bunny, play games, enjoy a wonderful buffet lunch, and help us find thousands of colored eggs stuffed with candy that suddenly appear in the field behind the church. A fun-filled family event that celebrates the joy and promise of new life.
Family Camp
July 5-11, 2026
Since 1978, the purpose of St. John's Family Camp has been to strengthen the friendships of our church community, surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Family Camp is held along the Bear River, at the Donner Mine, in the area of Emigrant Gap. Campers can come for any amount of time; for one day, several days, or the whole week.
Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, October 4, 2026
On the first Sunday of October (the feast of St. Francis) all are invited to bring their beloved animal companions (or pictures of your companions if they want to sleep in) to our services (held outdoors) for a special blessing. Cats, Dogs, Hamsters, Rabbits, Gerbils, Spiders, Snakes, Ponies, Chickens, Roosters, all of God’s beloved creatures are welcomed and honored.
Trunk or Treat

Each year a day or two before Halloween, St. John’s provides a fun and safe place for families to come and “Trick or Treat.” We bring our cars to the parking lot, put on our costumes, and open our decorated trunks that are filled with all kinds of safe pre-packaged candy. We also throw in a bounce house and other games. We'll have a pet costume contest: Cutest, Scariest, Most Creative. Come join us for a “Boo-tiful” evening as we enjoy the very creative ways in which people choose to celebrate Halloween.
