Book Study
Sundays at 2:00 PM
A new Book Study will begin on on Sunday, February 22nd at 2:00 pm via Zoom. People of the Lie:The Hope for Healing Human Evil by M. Scott Peck.
In this absorbing and equally inspiring companion volume to his classic trilogy—The Road Less Traveled, Further Along the Road Less Traveled, and The Road Less Traveled and Beyond—Dr. M. Scott Peck brilliantly probes into the essence of human evil.
People who are evil attack others instead of facing their own failures. Peck demonstrates the havoc these people of the lie work in the lives of those around them. He presents, from vivid incidents encountered in his psychiatric practice, examples of evil in everyday life.
This book is by turns disturbing, fascinating, and altogether impossible to put down as it offers a strikingly original approach to the age-old problem of human evil.
Bereavement Support Group
First and Third Fridays
10:00 am
St. John's Bereavement Support Group meets on the first and third Friday every month, at 10:00 am in the Hospitality Room. We follow the Grief Share program, which provides a personal workbook for each participant. We watch a short video and have confidential conversation regarding the video topic or whatever someone has on their heart. Grief is a journey which should not be traveled alone. We help each other navigate through this difficult time.
Anyone is welcome to join us; just show up.
The Gathering Inn
First Wednesday and third Sunday
St. John's welcomes The Gathering Inn on the first Wednesday and third Sunday each month. Guests are treated to dinner with desert, joined by some of St. John's members. They have the opportunity to meet with TGI counselors or just hang out and relax. They sleep in our Sanctuary, and in the morning they are sent off with a lunch bag with breakfast goodies.
Clients of The Gathering Inn are working to end their unhoused conditions and St. John's is honored to aid them in this small but meaningful way.
Dementia Caregivers Support
Fourth Tuesday of each month, 3:00 pm
If you have been noticing your loved starting to behave a “bit” differently and new tensions seem to be rising as a result, then it may be time to consider coming to the support group where you can learn from others on the same path. In this group, we are learning more about what to expect and more importantly, how to respond in order to have a smoother relationship. There are numerous types of dementia, and some are overlapping in surprising ways.
Learning how to manage your own behavior in this new reality will make a HUGE difference in your relationship and even with your own mental health.
Anyone is welcome to join us.

Yearly Events
Easter Egg Hunt
April 4, 2026, 11:00 am
Each year on Holy Saturday, the Saturday before Easter Sunday, we invite children of all ages from our surrounding community
to come meet the Easter Bunny, play games, enjoy a wonderful buffet lunch, and help us find thousands of colored eggs stuffed with candy that suddenly appear in the field behind the church. A fun-filled family event that celebrates the joy and promise of new life.
Family Camp
July 5-11, 2026
Since 1978, the purpose of St. John's Family Camp has been to strengthen the friendships of our church community, surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Family Camp is held along the Bear River, at the Donner Mine, in the area of Emigrant Gap. Campers can come for any amount of time; for one day, several days, or the whole week.
Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, October 4, 2026
On the first Sunday of October (the feast of St. Francis) all are invited to bring their beloved animal companions (or pictures of your companions if they want to sleep in) to our services (held outdoors) for a special blessing. Cats, Dogs, Hamsters, Rabbits, Gerbils, Spiders, Snakes, Ponies, Chickens, Roosters, all of God’s beloved creatures are welcomed and honored.
Trunk or Treat
Friday, October 30, 2026
6:00pm-8:00pm
Each year a day or two before Halloween, St. John’s provides a fun and safe place for families to come and “Trick or Treat.” We bring our cars to the parking lot, put on our costumes, and open our decorated trunks that are filled with all kinds of safe pre-packaged candy. We also throw in a bounce house and other games. We'll have a pet costume contest: Cutest, Scariest, Most Creative. Come join us for a “Boo-tiful” evening as we enjoy the very creative ways in which people choose to celebrate Halloween.
